Every line of code we write has an impact. Whether it’s a simple app or a complex AI system, ethics should always be at the heart of how we design and develop technology.
As technology continues to shape nearly every aspect of modern life, ethics has never been more important. From data privacy to algorithmic bias, the decisions made by developers and designers have real consequences for society. In my IT studies at DePaul, I’ve come to understand that ethical responsibility must be built into every stage of technological creation—not treated as an afterthought. We can’t simply ask what technology can do; we must also ask what it should do.
Ethical design means prioritizing fairness, transparency, and inclusion. It means questioning whether a product benefits users equally or unintentionally harms certain communities. As someone passionate about using technology for social good, I believe that the future of innovation depends on empathy and accountability. The best technologies don’t just solve problems—they respect the people they serve. For me, ethics isn’t a limitation; it’s the foundation of meaningful progress.
